Official Pacific Rim game for mobile
I was tempted to talk about Evangelion, but as I'm sure you'd prefer to read about the tie-in game for Pacific Rim, the movie, I won't do it. Pacific Rim, the mobile game, follows the same premises as the movie: you control and upgrade a giant robot (up to five different models) and have to protect the Earth from Kaijus, also known as the "monsters". I'm not sure they're eviler than us the earthlings, but that's another debate we won't discuss now if you don't mind.
Pacific Rim is played in a campaign mode through thirty different stages (and a survival mode for the toughest), every one featuring a battle against a different Kaiju. Gameplay is blatantly similar to so-called "gladiator games", as you have to dodge and dodge and dodge enemy attacks by swiping left or rightwards and attack, usually mashing the screen or zigzagging or any other frenetic gesture. If you do what you should do, you can activate an ultra-über-super combo and activate a cutscene. It's very spectacular, and if you are not already bored by this soon-to-be over-used gameplay, you'll enjoy it a lot.
This game also widens the film's lore, though only about bots and monsters and not about the characters of flesh and bone. If you liked the film, you'll love it. If you like gladiator-like games, you'll love it. Otherwise, $5 may be too much for such a hefty app.
